Griffith Observatory Employment Opportunities

Employer Information

Griffith Observatory, opened to the public in 1935, is a non-profit educational institution whose purpose is to provide information on astronomy and related sciences to the public. With over a million visitors a year, the Observatory is one of the top tourist attractions in Southern California. For nearly 75 years, Griffith Observatory has served as a source of inspiration and education for all visitors. Admission to the Observatory building and grounds is always FREE. There is a nominal charge to see shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.

The Observatory completed a four year renovation and expansion project in late 2006, with improvements including the new 200-seat Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon theater, doubling of the exhibit space to house more than 60 new and exciting exhibits, and new sound, lighting, interior dome and digital laser projection technology in the refurbished Samuel Oschin Planetarium theater. The Observatory posts employment opportunities as the need arises. All those hired are employees of the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks, which owns and operates the Observatory.
